2019 in Review & A Look Ahead to 2020

From opening our 2nd office in Cardiff to hand-delivering baskets for Caerphilly County Borough Council’s record-breaking Christmas appeal, we hit some pretty amazing milestones in 2019. And with so much happening, we wanted to highlight some of the exciting moments and milestones that took place last year. And with a whole new year ahead of us, there’s plenty more to come!

Here, we take a look back at how Optec’s evolved over the last 12 months, and preview what’s to come in 2020 and beyond.

We Said Hello to the Dave’s

In 2019, we welcomed several new faces to the Optec team, including our team of super Dave’s: Dave Golding and Dave Cornelius.

We were fortunate enough to welcome Dave G to the Optec team in August as our Technical Director. Dave’s been instrumental in expanding Optec’s services capabilities – leading our expansion into Wales – and bringing a new level of technical expertise to our clients.

One Dave just wasn’t enough – so we went ahead and doubled down with the addition of Dave Cornelius, certified ethical hacker and cybersecurity engineer extraordinaire. The latest member of the Optec team, Dave C joined us following several years heading up a Financial Crime team. You can learn more about Dave and his unexpected journey to becoming an ethical hacker in his most recent blog post.

We Expanded our Services

After several years of partnering with industry-leading IT security and infrastructure vendors to help our clients achieve their IT goals, we realised we could put our expertise to use to offer our clients a broader range of services. With the addition of two more highly trained engineers (see Dave’s above), we introduced an expanded range of services around cybersecurity, wireless, network and implementation.

From Fortinet migrations and firewall installations to managed security services and vulnerability testing, our expanded services offering now provides clients with a flexible and agile approach to keeping their network and data secure. We Got New Digs

Towards the end of 2019, we officially expanded into Wales with our brand-spanking new Cardiff office. The new space serves as the home of Optec’s Services team and the hub of our network operations. Combined with our office in Silverstone, the new Cardiff office gives us enough space to accommodate our continued growth in the year ahead.

We Went Gold

If 2019 didn’t keep us busy enough, we also became a Fortinet Gold Partner. As a Gold Partner, we’re certified to deliver the full spectrum of Fortinet’s solution set and can assist with any variety of implementation needs. After years working with the wonderful team at Fortinet, we couldn’t be more excited to expand our relationship and look forward to an exciting year ahead!

We Teamed up with New Partners

In the spirit of growth, we continued to partner with new vendors to bring our clients the latest technology solutions and services. From innovative deception technology from Attivo and next-generation software-defined data centres from DataCore to power and connectivity solutions from Tripp Lite, we teamed up with a slew of new vendors to provide the ideal technology solutions to our clients. And we have no plans to slow down, as we look to partner with more industry-leading solutions in the year ahead.

Now with 2019 in the rear view mirror, we’re already looking ahead to 2020 and the incredible opportunities on the road ahead of us. Thank you for sharing in our successes so far, and we can’t wait to see what we can achieve together in the year ahead!
