Optec Achieves Cyber Essentials Certification!

In a time when cybercrime is on the rise and virtually all UK businesses are exposed to cybersecurity risks, keeping our clients’ data secure is a top priority. As part of our ongoing commitment to cybersecurity, we’re very pleased to announce that Optec has achieved certification to the UK National Cyber Security Centre’s Cyber Essentials scheme.

Developed by the UK government, the Cyber Essentials scheme sets out a baseline of standard cyber security practices for businesses across the UK. The scheme is designed to help organisations of any size demonstrate their commitment to cyber security by assessing five key technical security controls, which implemented correctly can protect against 80% of common cyber attacks.

Those five areas being:

  • Securing internet connectivity through the effective use of a firewall

  • Configuring the most secure settings for software and devices used across the business

  • Ensuring secure access control to company data and services

  • Implementing effective protection against viruses and malware

  • Effective patch management of company devices and software

While cybersecurity is an ever-evolving challenge, our Cyber Essentials certification marks another step on our continuous journey to enhance our cybersecurity efforts and demonstrates our ongoing commitment to data protection. With these five security controls mastered, we’ve established a strong foundation for cybersecurity and data protection.

Shout out to Dave Cornelius for his hard work in making this happen! We’re now working towards our Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation, so keep your eye on this space for more news. For more information on our cybersecurity best practices, please get in touch with our team.
